Would you like to cut down on your household’s contributions to the landfill, but you don’t have the ability to compost at home?

High Desert Composting was created to provide Yakima area residents with an affordable and convenient way to compost their food scraps.

We work in collaboration with Yakima Beach Permacultural Collective to turn your food waste into nutrient rich compost that is used to grow food.

Much of what gets grown in our garden beds of compost enriched soil gets preserved and stored. Then, in the winter, it is used to prepare meals for the Young Adult Extreme Winter Weather Shelter operated by Rod’s House.

For $10 a month High Desert Compost provides weekly curbside/porch pick-ups of your food scraps. This is ideal for folks who live in apartments, condos, duplexes, or anyone who doesn’t have a convenient way to compost their food scraps.

Be sure to stop by our booth to find out how the food scraps that get collected are used, learn about different composting techniques and methods,

You’ll also get to meet one of our Alpacas, Lisle, and learn about how he and the other animals help us compost!  Kids (and adults) will be able to pet Lisle!
